Manuel Kuhn, PhD

Manuel Kuhn, PhD, is a post-doctoral research fellow in the Laboratory for Translational and Affective Neuroscience, directed by Diego A. Pizzagalli, PhD. Dr. Kuhn completed his doctoral degree at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany, where he examined the neurobiological mechanisms and inter-individual differences underlying fear and anxiety as part of Dr. Tina Lonsdorf’s research group. He continued this line of research during a post-doctoral assignment in Dr. Alexander Shackman’s Translational Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Kuhn’s current research is focused on the neural correlates of approach and avoidance behavior and their relationship to clinical outcomes and everyday experiences. Specifically, his work explores the impact of the nociceptin and dopaminergic systems as well as acute stress during decision making processes in remitted and acutely depressed patients. To address these questions, he applies a multimodal approach, utilizing neuroimaging, psychophysiological, computational modeling, and ecological momentary assessment methodology.
