Junghyup Suh, PhD

Junghyup Suh, PhD, is an assistant neuroscientist at McLean Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He was a post-doctoral fellow and research scientist in the laboratory of Susumu Tonegawa, PhD, at MIT, where he investigated how the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex contribute to episodic memory at single cell and circuit levels in healthy and diseased brains. He developed multiple genetically engineered mouse lines and established in vitro/in vivo electrophysiological recordings, genetic circuit manipulation, and behavioral assays.

Dr. Suh’s current research focuses on understanding of how neural circuits in the limbic system contribute to cognitive and behavioral processes and how dysfunction in these circuits leads to neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, and PTSD. He is dedicated to pioneering and integrating cutting-edge technologies for monitoring and manipulating neuronal activity including optical imaging and optogenetics.
