McLean Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a member of Mass General Brigham, is pleased to announce that April Koh, CEO and co-founder of Spring Health, a comprehensive mental health benefit for employers and health plans, has joined the McLean Hospital Board of Trustees.
“April brings a wealth of experience to our board,” said Carol Vallone, chair of the McLean Hospital Board of Trustees. “Her innovative approach and dedication to mental health will be invaluable as we continue to advance McLean Hospital’s mission.”
Koh, who was named one of the 15 Most Powerful Women in Startups by Fortune and is an honoree on Marie Claire’s Power List, Forbes 30 Under 30, and Crain’s 40 Under 40, said McLean’s “ethos around multidisciplinary care” was among her reasons for becoming involved as a board member at McLean.

“I’ve admired McLean for years,” said Koh, whose company, Spring Health, provides mental health benefits such as digital support, meditation exercises, coaching, therapy, medication, and more.
By leveraging its Precision Mental Healthcare technology, Spring Health delivers exactly what will work for each person, faster. “Given my company’s work in mental health and my passion for advancing the field, it’s an honor to join McLean’s Board of Trustees.”
Koh has called McLean “the gold standard in mental health,” noting that its providers truly respect the complexity of the mental health field. “There’s no simple, one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to mental health. Each person deserves an individualized care plan that’s tailored to their unique needs and lifestyle,” she said. Koh also notes the hospital’s commitment to serving diverse communities and age groups, something she feels is often overlooked in psychiatric care today.
“My co-founder and I started Spring Health because we saw an opportunity to leverage technology by empowering providers to deliver better outcomes for more patients. McLean’s ethos around multidisciplinary care rings true to me because it respects the complexity of mental health care and designs highly individualized solutions for each patient.”
“We are thrilled to have April join the McLean board and add her voice, knowledge, and expertise to this talented group of leaders who are deeply committed to supporting McLean and the people our organization serves,” said Scott L. Rauch, MD, president and psychiatrist in chief for McLean.
Koh’s inspiration for Spring Health dates back to her college years. “I realized how many of my peers were struggling in silence. They were unsuccessfully trying to access care, and when they did find care, the trial-and-error time in their recovery process seemed excessively long,” she said.
“Mental health treatment shouldn’t feel like throwing darts at a dartboard. By leveraging tools like artificial intelligence and machine learning, we can speed up the process of matching patients with providers and treatment plans that are a true fit. I love that McLean Hospital specializes in hard-to-treat cases and helping those who haven’t yet achieved their mental health goals.”
“April is showing the world how technology can be leveraged to deliver mental health care with greater precision, a goal McLean shares,” said Vallone. “She adds a valuable perspective to the board as a tech-savvy innovator with so many ideas about how to improve mental health care.”
Becoming a mother this past year, Koh has a renewed sense of commitment to her mission. “I’m even more motivated to remove the many barriers to mental health care for as many people as possible, and to create a better world for my daughter where there is fast and easy access to quality care, should she ever need it,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to learning from McLean’s team and my fellow board members, asking lots of questions, and thinking expansively about how technology can help ensure that McLean always remains at the forefront of innovation in mental health treatment,” Koh said.
“It is often said that great companies refuse to assume that the best solution to yesterday’s problem will continue to be the best solution tomorrow. The same is true in health, and I’m inspired by the opportunity to collaborate on what the future of mental health looks like.”
